Stretch Mark Surgery-Tummy Tuck

Your skin is naturally elastic. It has the ability to stretch a significant amount to accommodate changes in the body such as pregnancy and weight gain. However, at some point the skin reaches its limit and stretch marks can occur. This happens because a deep layer of the skin tears causing the skin that you can see to appear discolored, streaky, and scarred. There are many options to treating stretch marks such as creams, exercise, and lasers, but the only treatment that can permanently remove stretch marks is stretch mark removal surgery. The surgery for treating stretch marks is basically a tummy tuck. This article will go over some basics of the tummy tuck which is also known as abdominoplasty.

Stretch Mark Surgery Basics

Stretch mark surgery/tummy tucks work by having excess skin or fat removed by essentially removing it with incisions.  Depending on the amount of work that needs to be done, the incisions may be small are go the entire width of the body.  A quality plastic surgeon will usually try to hide the surgery scars as much as possible by making the incision around the hip bones so the scars can be hidden beneath the bikini line.  What was that?  A tummy tuck scar?  That's right.  You'll be trading one type of scar for another but depending on your situation it can be worth it.  Just remember, tummy tucks are an invasive process and like all surgeries requires recovery time.

Stretch Mark Surgery Cost

So what's does a tummy tuck cost?  Well like everything in life, the answer is, it depends.  Do you want to risk death to save a buck?  You could fly to Central America and have it done.  My suggestion is to contact more than one board certified plastic surgeon here in the states and have a consultation.  Plan on spending anywhere from $3000 to $9000.  This number could be much higher of course and odds are your insurance isn't going to cover it as its deemed an optional procedure.  Never fear, surgeons know most people don't have that kind of scratch lying around, so payment plans and financing options are typically offered to qualified patients.

What to do?

Will it all be worth it?  High cost, plastic surgery recovery times, tummy tuck scars, hmmm.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  Stretch mark scars can be quite traumatic for some people.  For others, its a minor nuisance.  If surgery is going to restore or boost your self image and confidence then it will definitely be worth it.  But don't forget to weigh the pros and cons before diving in.
