Stretch marks are a common problem and there is a large market of people looking for ways to cure or prevent stretch marks.  Stretch mark creams also known as stria creams are the most popular method of preventing and treating stretch marks and there are many, many options to choose from.  From cheap creams to high end creams that can cost hundreds of dollars a jar, it be confusing looking for the right option for you.  This article will go over some of the more popular options and take a brief look at their ingredients, price, and promises.

Skin Nutrition

Skin Nutrition by Urban Skintrition claims to be the #1 stretch mark cream in international markets.  Ingredients include shea butter, vitamins A, E, C, and polypeptides.  When it comes to stretch mark creams, these are popular and common ingredients.  Some people use nothing but shea butter, and the added vitamins and polypeptides can't hurt.  They claim it helps skin appear softer and smoother as well as firmer and more toned.  It's important to note that lotions can help skin appear more toned for short periods of time but only exercise can actually accomplish increased tone.  4 oz. can be had for as little as $26.95 in places like Amazon.com and can be as high as $44.99 in a mall store.

StriVectin-SD

StriVectin-SD by StriVectin is one of the more expensive stretch mark removal creams on the market and it makes some of the boldest claims.  Beware anytime they claim miracles.  Ingredients include various peptides, darutoside (claimed to stabilize collagen), and moisturizers.  Hailed by the company as an anti-wrinkle phenomenon this “miracle” cream is not only a pregnancy stretch mark cream but an amazing wrinkle remover that people are using on their faces for dramatic results.  Priced at $135 for 6 oz in stores or $75 on Amazon, this cream better work miracles.  Try others, maybe 20 others before shelling out this kind of cash.  Cosmetic companies are notorious for unsubstantiated miracles.

Revitol

Revitol stretch mark cream by Revitol is one of the more well known creams on the market.  Containing squalene oil, various vitamins, grapefruit seed extract, and aloe vera extract, it has one of the more exotic ingredient line ups on the market.  As with most creams, reviews range from it worked wonders to it didn't work at all.  Claimed to help prevent stretch marks, increase skin elasticity and firmness, it sounds like the majority of claims on the market.  Priced around $27 for 4 oz on Amazon it won't set you back too much to give it a shot.

Bella B Tummy Honey Butter

Bella B Tummy Honey Butter by Bella B would be your grandmother's recommendation as it contains the classic ingredients for stretch mark prevention, shea and cocoa butter.  Also containing vitamins, wheat germ oil, and lanolin, this product generally receives good reviews and priced at $15 for 4 oz its a steal compared to the other creams.  Claiming it helps make your skin more elastic this product also has an anti- itch agent for those with a belly itch.  You know what they say, Grandma knows best.  Give this one a shot.

Conclusion

The best thing to do would be to consult your physician and ask friends what worked for them.  And remember, when it comes to creams and lotions, more expensive doesn't necessarily mean more effective.

My mom and sister both got terrible stretch marks with their pregnancies. I decided I was going to do everything possible to keep them from appearing! I did some research and found that ingredients like petroleum and mineral oil will not absorbs into your skin (sorry but Palmer's is full of this stuff) and therefore any cocoa butter will also not be absorbed.

I searched everywhere for a natural stretch mark cream and a mom in one of my pregnancy classes recommended TUMMY BUTTER by SPOILED MAMA. It is hard to get- I mean you can only find it online unless you live in California. I bought a small jar because I wanted to see if it worked (and it is a lil expensive $27- but totally WORTH IT!). I have been using this since early on and swear by it. I also bought some for Christmas to help fade my sis stretch marks and so far so good.My OB even said that it was safe during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

I also make sure that I drink plenty of H2O and take Omega 3's daily to hydrate my body from the inside. My OB also mentioned that hot showers can be very drying so stay away and not to put soap on your tummy unless visibly dirty since many soaps containing drying ingredients. Good luck!!!
