Classic Truck Insurance

Classic truck insurance is important coverage for the avid auto collector. There are many unique situations that classic trucks pose over standard automobiles. For example, the values of antique trucks can vary dramatically and they are difficult to accurately appraise. Standard insurance coverage might not take into account the unique value of each of these vehicles. A 48 Chevy is just an old truck that has lost the majority of its value in their eyes.

Sometimes referred to as antique truck insurance there are other unique factors to consider. Most people that take the time to restore a vehicle tend to admire it more than drive it. Imagine if you had spent countless hours, sometimes years, and thousands of dollars restoring a truck to meticulous detail. Would you feel comfortable risking it out on the open road? They are more like pieces of art at that point than a transportation device. So why would you need coverage like it was a daily driver? That's a lot of worthless premiums you would be paying. Because of this, classic truck insurance often only covers the vehicle when its traveling to and from car shows and while its at those car shows. When not participating in a show the vehicle is sometimes required to be locked away in a garage or a trailer for safe keeping. A common exemption is that damage or theft that occurs while the truck is unattended in a parking lot is not covered.

Because of the special situations and exemptions its important to note every detail of the policy and make sure that you and the insurance company agree upon the value that is being covered. A lawyer is beneficial in this situation. There is an initial cost up front, but they can save you from thousands of dollars and countless hours spent on a later lawsuit if there was a misunderstanding about what and how much was covered.

Saving money on antique truck insurance is no different than on basic insurance. Getting with a couple trusted brokers can save you time on calling around to different companies. It's still wise to call a couple because going direct might save you a decent chunk of change. Taking a higher premium will forever be the surest way to bring down the cost of insurance. But keep in mind that cost isn't everything and going with a highly rated insurance provider is extremely important. Ask some fellow car collectors what kind of coverage they have what company they went with. You will get a pretty good of where you should go to get your classic truck insurance.
